Uncertainty trade-off and disturbance trade-off for quantum measurements
An important non-classical feature of quantum measurements is the celebrated uncertainty trade-off, namely that the uncertainties in the outcomes of measurements performed on distinct yet identically prepared ensembles of systems cannot all be made arbitrarily small. Recently, we have shown that quantum measurements also exhibit another non-classical feature of disturbance trade-off namely, tha...
متن کاملQuantum uncertainty switches on or off the error-disturbance tradeoff
The indeterminacy of quantum mechanics was originally presented by Heisenberg through the tradeoff between the measuring error of the observable A and the consequential disturbance to the value of another observable B. This tradeoff now has become a popular interpretation of the uncertainty principle. However, the historic idea has never been exactly formulated previously and is recently called...
متن کاملAnalysis of Error-Reject Trade-off in Linearly Combined Classifiers
In this paper, a framework for the analysis of the error-reject trade-off in linearly combined classifiers is proposed. We start from a framework developed by Tumer and Ghosh [1,2]. We extend this framework and analyse some hypotheses under which the linear combination of classifier outputs can improve the error-reject trade-off of the individual classifiers. Experiments that support some of th...
متن کاملOn the Error-Reject Trade-Off in Biometric Verification Systems
In this work, we address the problem of performance evaluation in biometric verification systems. By formulating the optimum Bayesian decision criterion for a verification system and by assuming the data distributions to be multinormals, we derive two statistical expressions for calculating theoretically the false acceptance and false rejection rates. Generally, the adoption of a Bayesian param...
متن کاملExperimental test of error-disturbance uncertainty relations by weak measurement.
We experimentally test the error-disturbance uncertainty relation (EDR) in generalized, strength-variable measurement of a single photon polarization qubit, making use of weak measurement that keeps the initial signal state practically unchanged. We demonstrate that the Heisenberg EDR is violated, yet the Ozawa and Branciard EDRs are valid throughout the range of our measurement strength.
